Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights many luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
